In the Heart of Napa Valley

Meadowood is surrounded by nature, on a 100-hectare estate. At this unforgettable stopover in the heart of Napa Valley, you can wander through the forest at your leisure, learn to play croquet or golf, and enrich your knowledge of wine.

After leaving San Francisco and following the route of winemakers towards the north, we arrived at Meadowood, which sits right in the centre of Napa Valley. The path that led us to the reception and which winds through the vast estate is shaded by centuries-old oak trees through which a superb light filters through. As we made our way, we crossed members of the very friendly staff as well as a few other lucky guests en route to the tennis courts.

After checking in to our charming suite, we set off on an adventure by foot in search of the swimming pool so that we could enjoy the beautiful day and let ourselves roam freely. Refusing to bring along the map that was made available to us in our room, we walked until we stumbled upon the lovely croquet lawn behind Meadowood's two restaurants. One of the players, dressed all in white (the obligatory dress code), was happy to explain the rules to us.

We next arrived at the swimming pool, or rather swimming pools: the first one allows guests to get in a little exercise swimming laps, whereas the second is dedicated mainly to relaxation and families. Did I forget to mention the large jacuzzi? We spent a good part of the day there before heading to the adjoining tennis court.

We stayed in the Treeline Suite, a magnificent house located at the top of the property, where it was the terrace and fireplace that ultimately charmed us. Each detail breathes of refinement, from the selection of amenities (among which a wine cellar) to the attention given by the hotel's staff. We instantly felt at home there.

The next day, we made an appointment at the spa. To say that we spent a moment of absolute serenity is an understatement, thanks to the charming hostesses and the cocktail of essential oils custom-created for our needs. Afterwards, we were gently lulled back to reality in a dreamy resting room and left the spa embraced by the estates's luxurious nature.

Since we were fully relaxed, we decided to take advantage of it to go for a run on one of the many trails surrounding Meadowood. It was also another occasion to take in the full immensity of the estate. We saw morning players sharing the golf course with the swans who come to enjoy its freshly mown grass.

Our last evening ended on a beautiful note at The Restaurant at Meadowood, where the beauty of the dishes is rivalled only by their flavours. The vegetables and aromatic herbs used by the restaurant come from the estate's vegetable garden and a great number of guests have come from all over the United States simply to enjoy a taste of them.
