This was my first time in Bruges and Belgium. From my email communications with the hotel, I understood that there would be someone picking me up at the Bruges train station. The friendly gentleman awaiting me said hi and helped me carry my large bags. As we were driving into town to the hotel, I realised that this very gentleman was in fact the owner of the marvellous hotel where I would be staying. Wow!

bruges city break
After a super speedy check-in and warm welcome from the staff, I was escorted to my room, which was charmingly decorated with a beautiful chandelier and cute antique telephone. I was incredibly tempted to simply jump into the bed and take a nap.
After visiting a number of chocolate shops, I ended up at the main canal and suddenly fell into a state of euphoria! I couldn’t wait to photograph all of its beauty.
I had seen this iconic image of Bruges all over and just being there in person felt surreal. I wasted no time and took hundreds of shots.
Once I thought that I had enough of admiring Bruges' most quintessential view, I sprinted to the other side of the canal — about 10 minutes of walking — and found this beautiful scene of the buildings reflecting in the water. This has to be my favourite photo of the whole trip!
Later, I went back to Hotel Heritage to have a four-course dinner. It was such a wonderful, warm feeling to be in this elegant and beautiful dining room, adorned with red accents everywhere. The food was impeccable, from the appetizer to the dessert.
The next morning I was too lazy to go downstairs, so I ordered breakfast in my room. Oh boy, look at what I got!
People say that you haven't been to Belgium until you've visited Ghent. Well since it’s just an hour's train ride away, I decided to go to Ghent in the afternoon. I waited until sunset and the blue hour to capture this image.
I found out that the amazing person behind all of my incredible breakfasts is a woman named Stefanie! She is just adorable and looked after me so well.
Oh how time flies… day after day I had breakfast in a different spot at Hotel Heritage, which started to feel like home. I was sad to leave, but that’s all the more reason to come back.
