In the heart of Chianti, Pieve Aldina embodies the spirit of a time-old Italian village. Located on the Chiantigiana, the wine route that connects Siena to Florence, this peaceful hotel invites you to fully immerse yourself in Tuscany. Surrounded by vineyards, cypress trees and nearly 100 acres (40 hectares) of olive groves, the main building dates from the 11th century and once served as a summer residence for the bishops of Siena. Attached to the property, the Roman consecrated church of Santa Maria Novella testifies to the religious past of the place. Inside the historic building, its terracotta floors, beamed ceilings and pretty archways are mostly original expressions of the traditional local architectural style. Divided between three buildings, one of which can be entirely reserved, spacious rooms and suites offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The region’s rich regional culinary heritage and flagship local products are honored in two restaurants and a wine cellar. The expansive terrace welcomes diners for a tasty and authentic experience overlooking the valley.
