The smallest 5-star hotel in the Italian Alps is probably also the coziest boutique place to keep in mind for a couple getaway. Everywhere you look is all about the perfect balance between romance, amazing nature and design with character.
With a history of almost 400 years behind, Castel Fragsburg is quite a fairytale hotel. 20 suites, each with a different charm and personality, mixing Alpine and Mediterranean elements, antique and contemporary, in an aura of style and comfort. The historic hunting lodge blends effortlessly into the nature, translating its message into a pure form of enjoying life. During our stay here, we easily twined moments of intense pampering and connection with our own self and unique romantic chapters for two, in a set-up crafted with an eye for beauty.
They say the fundamentals of life are the most treasured at Castel Fragsburg. So, expect nothing less but simple things dressed for holiday. Every territory selected to offer even the most easygoing activity, like laying down on a canopy bed in the garden, brings a special emotion in a strong connection with the surroundings. Our favorite moments here were the ones spent savoring a glass of Italian bubbly in the outside jacuzzi, enclosed by vineyards, lush vegetation and foggy mountains peaks in the back.
They even have an awarded alchemist spa that takes the relationship with nature to a new level. Handpicked plants and flowers from the 10.000 sq. garden of the Castel Fragsburg are transformed under the magic wand of their team into oils, essences and other products used in the Castellum Spa. All meant to energize and pamper your body, mind and soul with the power of nature. The star of the show is the larch wood bath placed on the panoramic terrace, facing the Texel Group mountains. Here you can soak in a bath of goat’s milk or mineral-infused rosewater, while experiencing the incredible feeling of being anchored between the earth and the sky. The same sensation comes along if you sign up for a private yoga class in the small meditation room that almost seems to be floating on a cloud. Or with every meal in the glass loggia on the picturesque backdrop of Merano town seen from above.
Every morning starts with a generous selection of homemade South Tyrolean pastry, local jams and spreads, antipasti, hot and cold plates, prosecco and, of course, a touch of the garden: teas made with herbs and flowers picked from right outside. The fertile plants and flowers of South Tyrol also make it to the dinner table. The talented young chef Diego Salas leading the kitchen of Prezioso, the one-star Michelin restaurant at Castel Fragsburg, has a philosophy build around local ingredients and sustainability. He wants to offer the best of the region on his plates, giving the same importance to quality and the same respect to products, no matter if it’s tomatoes or caviar. With only six, well-spaced tables, Prezioso is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. But, if you want even more, like maybe honeymoon romance, you and your partner can hide in the rose garden and go for the open air Chef’s table, under the sky of South Tyrol.
