Take time to stroll through this green oasis on the edge of town. There are approximately 12,000 different roses and nearly 200 different varieties. You can stroll between the ponds and fountains, with the beautiful lake view in front of you. The ideal place to wind down and relax.
At the heart of the old town, Bourg-de-Four Square is one of those “typically Geneva” places where you can sip away at a coffee outdoors. On nice days, depending on the time of day, you can sit in the shade of seventeenth and eighteenth century houses, where you’ll find students or people taking a break from work. Depending on the season, discover one or another of these festivals. The Montreux festival, which takes place in summer, is a must and will allow you to enjoy the waterfront and its unique atmosphere. The Cully festival, which takes place in the spring, is cosier and you can discover many concerts in unusual places within this charming old town.
A small rack-rail train takes you from Montreux to over 2,000m in altitude, above the cliffs and forests. There you’ll find La Rambertia, an alpine botanical garden which includes 1,000 species of alpine plants. And if you look hard, you’ll spot the marmots popping their heads out of their burrows. All this, just 55 minutes from the lake…
