An hour and a half from Amsterdam, twenty minutes by boat from Den Helder — between the land and the sea — lies Texel, an island in the Frisian archipelago. It is where chef Jef Schuur, hand in hand with his wife Nadine Mögling, has chosen to open a Michelinstarred restaurant and several beautiful modern suites in what was once a presbytery. With the changing tides, he cooks local products such as Wadden Sea cockles with Texel lamb bacon, parsley root cream and a jus of puffed celery. Nadine, a sommelier, is an expert in European wines and uses her extensive knowledge of organic and natural wines to create subtle and unique pairings to compliment the cuisine's harmonious contrasts of tastes and textures.

Alici Restaurant

Formerly a smuggling port and refuge, Roscoff has remained a unique destination, with its waves of emerald, granite cottages and manor houses nestled amongst the cliffs. Halfway between Nice and Cannes, in a setting where the Mediterranean takes centre stage, the Cap d’Antibes Beach Hotel is a contemporary architectural jewel. Les Pêcheurs

While the 1960s architecture of this building–designated a National Monument of Portugal–is undoubtedly its most visible hallmark, its other notable distinction is the cuisine crafted by chefs Rui Paula and Catarina Correia. Located north of Porto, with ocean waves crashing at its feet, this unique spot perched on a rock facing the Atlantic serves as continual inspiration for the two chefs. The menu at Casa de Chá da Boa Nova pays tribute to Portuguese poet Luís Vaz de Camões and unfolds in a sequence of 6, 12, or 21 dishes, here called ’songs’, each showcasing the quality of seafood and other local flavors. Lobster pairs with corn, octopus with sweet cucumber, scarlet shrimp with broccoli and kaffir lime, and red mullet with asparagus. A creative and generous menu, a true ode to nature, complemented by an impressive selection of over 450 wines, mostly Portuguese.

Casa de Chá da Boa Nova

At the foot of a hill — in the shadow of Ireland’s most iconic medieval site, the Rock of Cashel — stands another architectural masterpiece, Cashel Palace. Built in 1728 by Sir Edward Lovett Pearce, the architect who designed the Parliament House in Dublin, this red brick manor was once the residence of Ireland’s archbishops. It is a brilliant blend of classicism and sophistication, with a façade that hides behind its symmetrical layout a world of surprises: a majestic colonnaded hall, walls covered in detailed wood panelling, staircases with handrails carved in the shape of candy canes, and rooms that seem to have been taken from a fairy tale.

Le Art

The towers of this château are so close to the river that it feels as if they are floating on it.
