People say that the Silk Road started from this island; Korčula has good reason to be proud to be home to Marco Polo's house, a stone’s throw from Lešić Dimitri Palace. The building's history dates back to the 17th century, when the Lešić family, rich property owners and merchants combined a number of semi-detached houses to create a palace worthy of that name. It has been meticulously renovated yet with a touch of contemporary design; its historical character and original layout have been retained and it now offers a small number of independent suites. Each evokes a step in Marco Polo's journey towards China, in a harmonious décor, with top-quality materials.

This historic restaurant in Place de la Madeleine has seen leading Chefs since the 18th-century. In succeeding Alain Senderens, Julien Dumas has carried on the tradition of accessible and democratised fine dining, constantly changing and striving for the ideal food-wine pairing. He serves a modern, inventive menu, open to exotic influences – his carpaccio of bream is inspired by Thai "Weeping Tiger" recipes and his Apicius duck (the signature dish created by Alain Senderens in 1970) now comes served with figs and liquorice. The restaurant boasts a unique Majorelle-designed décor, where the interplay of light and mirrors catches the reflections of the Église de la Madeleine.

Maison Decoret is temporarily closed. Across from the Parc des Sources in Vichy, MOF (Best Craftsman of France) Chef Jacques Decoret and his wife Martine have taken over a brick chalet dating from the time of Napoleon III. The chalet has a conservatory and a planted and aromatic roof, which illuminate the dining room. With its gentle, spacious rooms and a kitchen with large picture windows, it blends contemporary and classical style, just like the Chef. Jacques Decoret has created a new art de vivre in a historical thermal spa town. He favours fine produce, to which he applies his innovative skills, concocting combinations of hitherto unsuspected flavours for a cuisine nourished by smiles. A true institution of French gastronomy and a charming hotel, the Maison Lameloise has cultivated art de vivre since more than 90 years. In medieval times the cuisine attracted already the Dukes of Burgundy. This long and delightful story is continued by Chef Éric Pras, MOF (Best Craftsman of France), and Frédéric Lamy at the head of the former coach house dating back to the 15th century. The walls of a 500-year-old flour mill are home today to a delightful family hotel where you can enjoy total peace troubled only by birdsong and the sound of the brook rippling through the grounds. Standing on the shores of Lake Snowdonia, near Bala in North Wales, Palé Hall is a Victorian manor house dating from 1871, surrounded by 15 acres of parkland.
