Head out of Washington DC toward Old Town Alexandria, where the 18th century meets modern day tourism. Created by the Emperor that gave them their name, the Gardens of Augustus immediately offer you the most spectacular view of the Faraglioni, the legendary rock formations just off the coast of Capri. At the beginning of the 20th century, German industrialist August Krupp redesigned the Gardens by placing monumental fountains and statues throughout. He also constructed a magnificent path paved with flagstones that winds down in a series of hairpin bends to the Marina Piccola far below.
