Where to go in February with Relais & Châteaux?

India

What is the weather like in India in February? February is the perfect season for crossing the country from north to south, far from the monsoon rains of June to September. The temperature is rather pleasant, averaging at around 28°C, depending on the region.

Things to do in India: In the north of the country, in the beautiful Rajasthan, you can still see the remnants of what were once lavish towns along the caravan routes of the old Silk Road. The golden fortress of Jaisalmer is one of them and provides wonderful examples of the traditional finely sculpted haveli houses. The vibrant hue of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, has earned it the nickname the “Pink City”; its forts, palaces, gardens and temples are strikingly elegant. The Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh is home to the largest tiger population in the world. But India also offers hundreds of kilometres of coastline providing an entirely different landscape than the one you’ll find inland. The backwaters in the south-western area of Kerala are a stretch of beautiful lagoons, perfect for a timeless cruise.

Maldives

What is the weather like in the Maldives in February? With temperatures hovering between 27 and 31°C, the Maldives are a perfect destination for February. The 29°C water makes for a thoroughly pleasant swim.

Things to do in the Maldives: When you think of the Maldives, you think of a turquoise paradise. Here the lagoon provides an incredible aquatic fauna to reward divers, while the lush vegetation brushes the edge of the white sand beaches. In the Maldives, each island is an excuse for some R&R and the utter bliss of doing absolutely nothing. Admire the incredible spectacle of dancing manta rays or, if you’re really lucky, a sea turtle. From a picnic on the immaculate beach to a night under the stars, you’ll have all the ingredients for the most romantic of holidays!

Sri Lanka

What is the weather like in Sri Lanka in February? With temperatures between 23 and 33°C, February is one of Sri Lanka’s warmest months, but without the monsoon rains that plague the country from May onwards. The water temperature is just as clement at 28 °C.

Things to do in Sri Lanka: The country formerly known as Ceylon is hugely diverse. With its mountains covered in immense tea plantations, fine sand beaches, Buddhist temples and exceptional wildlife, Sri Lanka has something for everyone. With its countless national parks (Yala, Udawalawe, Lunugamvehera…), nature is all around, providing the chance to listen to birdsong or watch the nonchalant stroll of one of the leopards that live in the tropical jungle. But Sri Lanka has more to offer than safaris; you will also have the chance to discover the country’s culture, its people and its beliefs, its traditions and crafts. Tea is a religion here, and the country produces some of the best in the world. Finally, the colonial Portuguese and Dutch-era architecture have left a few gems like the city of Galle, which is well worth a visit.

Argentina

What is the weather like in Argentina in February? It is the ideal time to visit the various regions of Argentina.Temperatures fluctuate at around 28 °C, or perhaps even higher, depending on the region, with the extreme south of the country being cooler.

Things to do in Argentina: Buenos Aires is just magical as it navigates constantly between modernity and tradition, boasting neighbourhoods that still resonate with the tango music of Carlos Gardel. Between San Telmo or the Boca district, the birthplace of many a famous footballer, the houses flaunt pretty coloured façades. It is also a cosmopolitan city where Haussmannian architecture echoes Europe, from where the majority of its inhabitants hail. A few kilometres away, in the pampas, land of the gaucho, treat yourself to an asado, a typical Argentine barbecue and a real local institution, accompanied by a drink that is equally so: maté. But you have to go further west to witness the grandiose spectacle of nature offered up by the Andes Cordillera.

This is the particular charm of Chile, home to poet and writer Pablo Neruda, whose verses still resonate between Valparaiso and Isla Negra, his final refuge facing the Pacific. You will long remember the magnificent Torres del Paine National Park as well as the Andes Mountains, whose peaks look down on breathtaking scenery.
