On the northern border of the Maasai Mara, you’ll find Mara Plains canvas tents are tucked away amongst the lush vegetation on the banks of the Ntiakitiak River. This camp is one of the smallest in the region and offers the opportunity to get really close to nature and the local wildlife in the heart of a private conservancy with a very low density in vehicles and with abundant big cats. Your safari programme is customised and very flexible – it is organised on a daily basis so that you can make the most of the unique experiences that nature constantly offers. The traditional safari-style tents, which are raised on decks and have a marquis ceiling, blend into the beautiful countryside and offer sweeping views of the savannah.

Mara Plains Camp is a one-of-a-kind, seven tented camp located in the private 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy, just on the northern boundary of the Maasai Mara Nature Reserve. This intimate camp, blends the finest in wildlife viewing with the absolute best of safari hospitality and guiding. No other camp offers the extensive traversing area, with access to 100,00 acres of private conservancy land as well as the world renowned Maasai Mara, home to the Great Migration. Each guest contributes considerably to the success of the conservancy’s flourishing ecosystem; conservation fees paid safeguard this habitat, while supporting over 1,00 Maasai families. This partnership agreement ensures the survival of an astounding volume and variety of wildlife.

Our commitments

In the morning, the Savannah rustles to the growls of big cats and in the distance, a herd of zebras approach a waterhole. For the Mara Plains Camp this region, beating to Nature’s drum, is a world treasure to be preserved at all costs.

As a member of the Great Plain Conservation, Mara Plains Camp has certain responsibilities: preserving one of the last pockets of wilderness in Africa, protecting big cats and other animals from the Savannah and supporting local communities. At Mara Plains Camp guests are accommodated with this in mind: the tents blend into the natural environment without disturbing its beauty and the simple food is prepared using local products. Here, plant and animal life reign supreme and protecting endangered species is a priority. A fine approach to responsible tourism, in partnership with the neighbouring Maasai families.
