The quest for truffles is not for the uninitiated. The preferred terrain and methods of locating the precious mushroom are well-kept secrets. Get up at dawn to tread through grass still covered with morning frost. édouard will be waiting for you with his dog Lino, one of the best truffle dogs in the region. As the sun's rays dissipate the morning mists, the first truffles emerge from the ground right before your astonished eyes. You will learn to observe the signs that reveal the presence of the tuber melanosporum, and quickly develop a taste for this wonderful treasure hunt. You will prolong the experience by visiting the Sainte-Alvère truffle market, where you'll discover a completely different atmosphere. And because in the Périgord, a good day always ends with a meal and a glass of wine, we'll be waiting for you back at the Vieux Logis where you'll enjoy a tasty black truffle snack.

The end of a beautiful summer day distills the sweetness of life that soothes the spirits. This is the ideal time to take the little path that runs along the cliff carrying a basket filled with a bottle of fresh Bergerac rosé and some sweet treats. At the end of the path, the view is breathtaking. You've reached the rocky viewpoint overlooking the Cingle de Trémolat, a tight bend in the Dordogne. Author Henry Miller knew and loved France better than many French people. He was always in search of, inspirational locations. He originally planned to spend a week at this hotel in the heart of the black Périgord but ended up staying a month. Inside the former tobacco drying barn that has been converted into a dining room or outside under the linden trees, Miller’s spirit lives on. Like the author, you will appreciate the tranquillity of this former priory with its lovely gardens, babbling brook and natural pool in which you can swim. While away the hours in a relaxed atmosphere until dusk approaches and it is time to do a tasting of some fabulous regional wines.

By bike, 2 CV or by air, you'll complete this Route du Bonheur in the time it takes to explore the eateries of Bordeaux, enjoy hedonistic romps through the vineyards and partake of trips to the beach under the majestic Pyla dune. It's then back to the Aquitaine countryside for a trip through the Périgord region, along the Dordogne. Once on the Quercy and Larzac plateaus, the pace slows. A detour via the wonderful Soulages Museum and the little-known medieval façades of Rodez will take you to the Causses plateaus, a magnificent peaceful wilderness.

Escaping for a week's travel between New Aquitaine and Occitania is to discover the traditions, gastronomy, and some of the most sublime landscapes in Southwest France.
