Kathakali is one of the major forms of classical Indian dance created in the 17th century. It is a "story play" genre of art, distinguished by the elaborately colorful make-up, costumes and face masks that the traditionally male actor-dancers wear.Supported by chorales singing Malayalam, the local language, and percussion, the pantomimes perform a hypnotizing show using each of their muscles to express a range of perfectly codified emotions. I live myself in the middle of historical Mattancherry, surrounded by its history, markets and pulsating street life. A Tuk - Tuk tour navigates you through this maze and introduces you to a different world. Get down in the cluster of Jew town with its antique market around the synagogue and palace and see the markets and ware houses along the old Bazaar road back to Fort Cochin with its churches and Chinese nets on the Harbour front.
