Not only are there many 3-starred Michelin restaurants, but Kyoto's sweets and other kinds of Japanese confectionery are unforgettable as well. Staying at Kanamean Nishitomiya and savouring the cuisine and sweets of Kyoto will make your trip a tasty and extraordinary one. Of course, Kanamean Nishitomiya's cuisine is an excellent experience as well.

Kyoto’s delicious gourmet experiences

Nishitomiya restaurant truly reveres local ingredients. Its exquisite kaiseiki menu changes every month, to reflect the subtleties of seasonal flavors, while its wine and sake list will enhance every dining experience.

Creative cooking fusion and tasting dinner. Some dishes consist a combination cooking style of Teppanyaki cooking method and a charcoal grill method. The dinner and lunch set menu consist of 11 dishes. The Kaname counter table maximum capacity is until 6 seats. Our restaurants are closed on every Monday (fixed holiday). Experience creative Kyoto Kaiseki cuisine using local and worldwide fresh ingredients on Teppan grill and charcoal grill. The limited six people counter table encourage you to enjoy the rich culinary diversity of tradition and modernism in front of you. Please note that guests not staying at the ryokan are also welcome for both lunch and dinner.

Kaname

The Kanamean Nishitomiya is one of the ryokans which have survived in the modern surroundings of downtown Kyoto. The wooden architecture hosts only eight suites which lead to a little Japanese garden with seasonal flowers. Futon, tatamis, bamboo furniture… true serenity is prevailing. Mr and Mrs Nishida, the fifth generation of hoteliers in this property, welcome you personally, respecting the Japanese tradition of hospitality. Like the very beautiful crockery in which the dishes are served, your hosts look after every detail inspired by the history of the Honeyanocho district, renowned for crafted fans, which have given their name to the hotel.

Kyoto is the only city where the culture of Maiko and Geiko exists in Japan. Maiko and Geiko are young women who expertly sing, dance and play a shamisen (a three-stringed instrument) as a form of delightful entertainment at a banquet. A Maiko is a young girl (about 15 to 20 years of age) who is yet to become a Geiko. After training for 5 years as a Maiko, the girl then holds the title of a Geiko. Maiko and Geiko are affiliated with "Okiya" that are centred around Kyoto's Gion area, and from each Okiya, they are called to perform in tea houses and places such as Nishitomiya Kanamean. Guests enjoy wonderful dinners while being entertained by Kyoto's traditional dances, shamisen (a three-stringed instrument), ohayashi (flute and drums), and unique games with Maiko and Geiko.
