Your bush house awaits in a private section of South Africa’s Madikwe Game Reserve, a one-hour flight from Johannesburg. Once settled in one of the three villas at the Morukuru Family Madikwe, welcomed by the maître de maison, a private chef, a butler, and your personal housekeeping staff, all that is left for you to do is enjoy your adventure! The villas’ interior design emphasizes natural wood and stone, for the feeling of living with and within nature. What pleasure to take a refreshing dip in your private swimming pool between your personalized safaris, planned and led by your private guide and tracker. You can set out to encounter the celebrated “Big Five” – elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards, and lions. Perhaps you will also come across one of the cheetahs reintroduced into the reserve by the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, while you learn more about the foundation’s environmental preservation initiatives and support for local communities. As night falls, savor the Morukuru Family Madikwe’s open-air spa and feel time come to a standstill.

Plan your stay at Morukuru Family Madikwe

Your experienced guide and tracker will take you out for a game drive in an open vehicle twice a day, offering you the chance of spotting the Big Five as well as many other animals. The best times are early morning and late afternoon, as that is when the animals are most active. Times are flexible however, to accommodate your needs. Children of all ages are welcome to join on game drives as well, booster seats are available should these be required. Please remember to bring something warm, especially during the winter months. You will stop during the drive for a coffee break, or for sundowner drinks to watch the amazing African sunsets.

Game Drive

One of the most exciting things to do in Africa is a 'sleep-out': Spend the night on an elevated platform in the bush, under the stars, accompanied by the sounds of the animals. You'll be sleeping in a comfortable bed protected by a mosquito net, under a thick duvet with a hot water bottle, slippers, spotlight, drinks and snacks provided, as well as a radio to contact the guide in case of emergency. This experience is offered at no additional costs.

Morukuru Family, through the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, supports nature conservation as well as local communities. In Madikwe Game Reserve, guests can be actively involved by booking the optional 'Safaris with a Purpose' package which includes conservation work such as Rhino notching or Elephant collaring, as well as visiting the local school that is sponsored and one of the researchers in the reserve will come to the house for a presentation on the research work that is happening.

Here, going on safari helps support wildlife conservation and local communities. Conceived by the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, this experience introduces you to several conservation projects underway in the Madikwe Reserve. You'll help track and tag rhinos and big cats, and meet with researchers dedicated to preserving the local ecosystems. The program also includes a visit to a school in the nearby village of Molatedi. A minimum stay of four nights is required to take full advantage of all the activities offered.
