Martha's Vineyard19th-century captain's houseEdwardian styleantiquespicturesque gardens

At the heart of Martha’s Vineyard, the former haunt of whale hunters, you’ll find a captain’s house in the traditional British style. Built in 1864, The Charlotte Inn transports you to another time, and you can’t help but be swept away by its romantic atmosphere. The staff is courteous and alert to every detail. There is a new kind of luxury here: no computers or cell phones are allowed except in guest rooms. The suites have been exquisitely decorated with antique lamps and silk or linen fabrics. Between glasses of iced tea on the flower-filled patio, discover the beautiful island and explore its famous lighthouses and beaches, ideal for water sports and sailing.

Fine Art and Antiques

Visiting The Charlotte Inn is like stepping back in time. Exquisitely appointed with fine art, European antiques, and period furnishings, the inn revisits the grand and glorious lifestyle of Edwardian-era England. Throughout each of our meticulously restored buildings, you'll find a remarkable collection of traditional nineteenth-century oil paintings, antique sterling silver and hand-cut crystal, leather and fine wood furnishings, and charming Edwardian-era accoutrements. Our book of full-color photographs, "Behind the Times on Purpose," perfectly captures the inn's attention to every period detail, a romantic reflection of a bygone era.

English Country Gardens

The romantic gardens and grounds at The Charlotte Inn are reminiscent of an old-world European country home. Our guests can relax in the privacy and serenity of our English-style perennial gardens, amid the inn's intimate courtyards, meandering brick walkways, comfortable wicker and wrought iron garden furnishings, and vintage planters and statuary. Guests say our gardens are an inspiration for their own gardens at home, a welcome oasis of calm within the heart of Edgartown village. And we carry our love of flowers indoors too, with beautiful fresh floral arrangements to delight the senses throughout the year.

Itinerary - Massachusetts, two treasure islands

Five days visiting the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket could very well be the definition of a "getaway". Escape into the heart of small chic and timeless villages, walk along unspoiled beaches and cliffs, all far from the mainland... See the itinerary
