Traditional Japanese ryokanfamily-run for seven generationskaiseki cuisineprime location in Kyoto

Since 1818, seven generations of the same family have taken the helm of this ryokan, which is perfectly emblematic of Japan’s cultural heritage. Ideally located in the heart of Kyoto, near the Imperial Palace, Hiiragiya has welcomed writers, artists and prominent figures from every era, drawn by its refined and convivial spirit. The shared areas display a minimalist feel that evokes a sense of calm, while guest rooms offer modern-day comforts within a traditional aesthetic: tatami flooring, low tables, and sliding shoji screens made of wood and translucent rice paper opening onto the serenity of the garden. With a traditional bath in one of the two private bathing rooms crafted from fragrant Japanese umbrella pine (Kōyamaki), a library for quiet reading, and kaiseki cuisine served either in-room or in the shared spaces, every moment here is experienced with quiet intensity.
