The quest for spices - especially cinnamon - shaped the destiny of our island centuries ago and is thus a key part of the island heritage. Our cinnamon experience centres around a visit a working cinnamon plantation a short distance inland. See first-hand how cinnamon is planted, harvested, peeled, and quills are prepared. Your guide also explains cinnamon leaf bundling and the entire process of cinnamon oil extraction, as well as the surprising uses of this very special oil. It demonstrates an eco-friendly and perfectly self-sustaining farming process, with every part of the plant used or recycled. The experience is topped off with a tasting of cinnamon infused beverages and a peeling demonstration.

A couple of miles off the South Coast of Sri Lanka sits a migration channel for Blue and Sperm whales. Cape Weligama's Ocean Safari experience heads out to sea in search of the beautiful and fascinating creatures. With a naturalist onboard, guests enjoy detailed guiding not only about whales, but also marine biodiversity as a whole. During the excursion, sightings of mammals, turtles, fish and other marine life are also common. After leaving the whales, we anchor in the bay of Weligama for breakfast and a swim.

Surf, Body Board and Paddle

Guided by our Cape Weligama naturalist, you will spend a few hours observing wild elephants that Uda Walawe National Park is famous for. The park is also excellent for birdlife, especially raptors and migrant species that escape the European winter. Then, we visit the Elephant Transit home where wild, orphaned elephant calves are cared for and rehabilitated until they are released into the wild.

A Day with Giants

Explore Galle Fort on a hosted walking tour. The walk focuses on the host's experience of growing up in the Fort and presenting it as an extension of his "home" - a home filled with, history, heritage, cultural integration and soul. Through his eyes and narrative, explore the layers of social fabric of a multi-ethnic melting pot of why Galle Fort is significant to world heritage and earned the title of Unesco World Heritage Site.
