Central Park: a breath of fresh air in the heart of Manhattan

Spanning some 350 hectares, Central Park in the heart of Manhattan offers a green oasis between the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side of New York. Popular with tourists and for practising sports, Central Park is home to many bodies of water, including the well-known Reservoir, which covers almost 50 hectares. Created in 1858, the Lake immediately started attracting ice skaters when it froze in winter. Various structures punctuate the park, including the remarkable Belvedere Castle, built in the Scottish style and offering 360° panoramic views over the park and surrounding area. Lastly, don’t miss the Bethesda Fountain and Strawberry Fields monument, two essential sights to see when you visit. The Surrey, close to the Museum Mile

Some of New York's most important museums are located near The Surrey, in the vicinity of Central Park. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) exhibits art from around the world. At MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art), you can admire Van Gogh's famous Starry Night, Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, as well as works by Malevich, Roy Lichtenstein and the Campbell’s Soup Cans by Andy Warhol. Take in one of Klimt’s masterpieces, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, at the Neue Galerie. Finally, the Guggenheim Museum, located no more than a few blocks from the edge of Central Park is the jewel in the crown of any 20th century architectural exploration! Upper East Side: Manhattan chic

Between 5th Avenue and the Upper East Side is The Surrey Hotel, right at the heart of this smart Manhattan neighbourhood.
