The Kasteel Engelenburg is a historic country house and golf course marked by striking water features. The Kasteel itself forms the centerpiece of a landscaped 19th-century moat. The environmental focus of the estate’s owners—Johan and Carin Agricola—is also very much centered on water.
The environmental focus of the estate’s owners—Johan and Carin Agricola—is also very much centered on water. Kasteel Engelenburg has its own water supply, meeting all the needs of its hotel and restaurant. The kasteel also recycles 100% of its wastewater to such high quality that it can be bottled and sold. 25% of the profit from sales of this eco-friendly water are donated to the Beautiful Gate Charity, which works to house, empower, and strengthen families in Cape Town, South Africa. The hotel is also completing the changes needed to achieve Golf Environment Certification. By cultivating only native grasses, it will soon be able to meet all the course’s irrigation needs through natural, rain water.
