In the heart of the Marquesas Islands, one of the most remote archipelagos in the world, the twenty wooden bungalows of Nuku Hiva by Pearl Resorts offer a breathtaking view of Taioha’e Bay and the dramatic peaks of the mountains that encircle it. Peak and clifftop hiking

Photography lovers will appreciate this epic seven-and-a-half mile hike on the heights of the Aakapa and Hatiheu valleys via a track that leads through the heart of the native forest. When you reach the top, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the whole northeast of the island, a fabulous observatory from which to spot the Marquesas Islands’ endemic bird species.

Hike to the Hakaui waterfall

Experience the tropical vegetation of the ancient Royal Valley on your way to the stunning Hakaui waterfall. Departing from the hotel, you’ll first make for the fishermens’ wharf where you’ll take to the water for a 45-minute voyage observing the volcanic cliffs. Next, you’ll follow a trail on a two-and-a-half hour hike to the Hakaui waterfall, an astonishing natural wonder set amid lush surroundings. You’ll enjoy lunch by the river, with time to swim before you return to Taiohae by boat.

Hatiheu Valley

Discover Marquesian handcrafts in Taipivai and explore the ancient remains of Kamuihei. You’ll start your day in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, heading for the Tapivai Valley made famous by Herman Melville in the novel Taïpi, before continuing on to Hatiheu to visit ancestral 'paepae' and 'tohua.' You’ll enjoy a typical Marquesian lunch in a local restaurant, with time to visit a museum and swim in the bay of Hatiheu.
