Though Johannesburg is South Africa’s largest city, it is not the capital. Much like the city of New York, “Joburg” is a dense, vibrant urban environment, a metropolis where skyscrapers rise alongside townships and Art Deco buildings rub shoulders with Brutalist construction. Though the city’s sheer size may be intimidating, Johannesburg is well worth exploring to gain a greater understanding of its colorful past and how it helped shape today’s South African society.

Navigating the Zambezi by dugout canoe
Floating down the Zambezi for a few hours is a truly unique experience. The river is home to numerous hippos–often seen half-submerged–and crocodiles with gaping jaws. You can encounter them safely, while traveling in traditional dugout canoes steered by experienced rangers, while waterbuck, baboons, hyenas and elephants can be spotted along the river bank.
