Hôtel Lion d'Or 1774 - Châteaux de la Loire brings to life five centuries of l’art de vivre (‘the art of living’). Here in the Sologne region, in the town of Romorantin–close to some of the Loire Valley’s most renowned chateaux–this Renaissance refuge appeals to fans of history, romantics at heart and those who come for its intimate atmosphere and gourmet food. It all began in 1520, when a nobleman close to King Francis I commissioned the property, which later became home to local officials and merchants. In 1774, it became a popular inn, and 250 years later, the establishment upholds this tradition of hospitality, blending its soul with modern comforts. Antique woodwork, fine fabrics and contemporary furniture adorn light-filled guest rooms, which open onto a tree-shaded patio, a Renaissance garden, or the historic crypt. The latest chapter of the property’s long history is now being written in the dining room, where Chef Loïc Le Bail presents a sustainable gourmet menu with locally sourced ingredients.
