In the morning, the Savannah rustles to the growls of big cats and in the distance, a herd of zebras approach a waterhole. For the Mara Plains Camp this region, beating to Nature’s drum, is a world treasure to be preserved at all costs.

As a member of the Great Plain Conservation, Mara Plains Camp is committed to preserving pivotal wildernesses in Africa and protecting endangered species. Working with the Great Plains Foundation, Great Plains Conservation supports various initiatives in Kenya, such as the Maasai Olympics, a project spearheaded by Maasai-elders which blends conservation education and athletics to shift cultural norms around lion-hunting. Partnering with Maasai families around Mara Plains Camp, Great Plains Conservation supports conservation education through kids’ camps and works with local women to support traditional handicrafts through the sale of beadwork and other products in the camp’s bush boutique. Working with local communities, Great Plains Conservation’s Conservation Grows programme has seen more than 2000 trees planted in and around the Maasai Mara, helping to restore indigenous trees to the landscape and teaching the value of indigenous trees in functioning ecosystems.

Located within Kenya’s private Olare Motorogi and Naibosho Conservancies, Mara Plains and Mara Nyika are members of the Great Plains Mara Camp Collection. Each is distinguished by its own unique luxury canvas tent designs, tucked away in the lush vegetation and trees along two separate river lines. The camps, perched on raised decking, respect the environment and blend in perfectly with the countryside, all the while offering breathtaking views of the savannah. At Mara Plains, guests can discover stunning scenery in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Mara Nyika Camp allows one to explore the Naboisho Conservancy, a private and exclusive 50,000-acre conservancy, one of the largest in the greater Maasai Mara. Both camps provide access to the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The Great Plains Mara Camps are the ideal locations from which to experience the ultimate Kenyan safari experience.

The best word to describe here is “paradise”. Situated alongside Ntiakitiak River where Fig trees amongst other trees towers high, Mara plains is indeed paradise on earth. Early at dawn a myriad of bird’s calls fill the air, the most vocal being the colourful white-browed robin chats, weaver birds and the raucous turaco.
As guests get into the open solid land cruiser at the car parking area the golden orb sun rays beams across the sky silhouetting our resident lions as they walk in tow downhill to the nearby bushes where they shall shield themselves from glaring sun later in the day. From a distance a zebra brays perhaps to celebrate the new dawn and the fact that it survived the previous night.
The entire Conservancy is teaming with wildlife of all kinds, from the tiny ants to the mighty elephants. Different habitats at Olare-Motorogi Conservancy harbour different species of animals as every animal has a unique adaption to its niche. Driving across and alongside each one of them you not only find all the animals but also see the real beauty and breath taking views of Maasai Mara.
