Wilderness Safari

JAWAI's leopards, birds and local culture make for a truly unique safari in this breathtaking region of Rajasthan. The mystery of JAWAI is unravelled for guests by informed guides and a measure of that mystery remains long after an excursion is over, to be relived forever. Trying our best to follow the schedule of our wild neighbours, we recommend an early start for your morning game drive, certainly before the sun is up. Our customized 4x4 jeeps, with a ranger on board will convey you expertly to every corner of JAWAI.

Temple Trail

Each place of worship in the JAWAI region has its own little story. There are over 300 temples and shrines dotting the landscape. The tranquil atmosphere of these temples, each with a distinct character, generates positive energy. Visit some of the temples in the region and witness one of the daily worships and ceremonies.

Walking with the Rabari

The greater JAWAI area is country made for walking and in a country usually busy and bustling here you can stroll at total peace with nature. They say the only way to truly understand someone is to walk a mile in their shoes. Traditionally, the Rabari shepherds have been nomads and walk for months with their herd. We invite you to take up the unique opportunity to walk across these magnigicent landscapes with a Rabari tribesman. JAWAI is the best example of rural Indian wilderness - colourful and blissful. The heart of India lies in its villages. Our cultural village excursion takes you through a living archive of the worlds most diverse and complex countryside.

Nature trail and twitching

Twitching' is trying to see as many different species of birds as possible. Those involved in the activity are known as 'twitchers' and each individual sighting is a 'twitch' or 'tick'. Our guides will help you sight over 170 species of birds in JAWAI. This is one of the largest varieties of birds that can be viewed in a particular region. Our list is still growing as we discover new ones every now and then. As the sun sets, we make our way to the edge of the lake to conclude our walk with a brief halt to stare and enjoy the tranquil stillness of the water and the sound of roosting birds.

UNESCO Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur Temples

The mighty 15th century fort of Kumbhalgarh, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a unique destination. A drive from camp to Kumbhalgarh is about 60 to 90 minutes and will deliver you to this magical eyrie. The excursion can be extended into a half-day outing with a picnic in the event you choose to visit the intricately carved temples of Ranakpur, an architectural marvel, less than an hour away. This excursion includes a car, a guide and packed lunch.

Hiking & Trekking

Depending on your aptitude, we offer a variety of hikes and treks in the area surrounding camp. These include the choice of a leisurely stroll looking for nomadic shepherds or a gentle hike through the fields, bush and rocks of JAWAI, or a challenging trek to one of the neighbouring hills around the area. For those who wish to choose the extreme way to explore the hills of JAWAI, an adventurous and challenging trek to some of the tallest kopjes in the area. Cutting through bush and finding grip to climb steep parts of the hills can be very stimulating. This is also an excursion which would be of interest to experienced rock climbers.

Junior Rangers

Over the past century, three generations of the SUJÁN family have adventured, dreamed and discovered the wilderness. We delight in being able to share the joys of nature with families and children. Our junior ranger programmes at our SUJÁN camps put the great outdoors and wildlife at centre stage with fun activities and learnings to inspire the imagination and appreciation of a natural world that needs our care. Complete with a junior ranger's t-shirt & cap, a bird book and wildlife list, colouring books, kids set out on an educational & fun filled adventures with our ranger. They can visit our farms to collect fresh eggs and meet the animals, pick veggies from the gardens and head out into the wilderness to practise photography, collect feathers and learn how to identify track marks. We even have a cubs den at camps where kids can paint, draw and enjoy interactive learning about the wilderness.
