Horseback Riding on the African Plains

Elephant Rescue

When we spotted a wounded elephant at the hide we called in the heli vets who treated the bull there and then. Guests came down to the hide to watch this procedure and waited for the bull to get back on his feet and drink some water quietly at the water hole before wandering off into the bush.

Star Bed experience

"Millions of stars cast their distant, flickering light across you as you lie there, absorbing the still, tranquil air of the African bush, punctuated by the mournful call of a solitary hyena on its nocturnal wanderings, a nearby jackal with excited chatter, calling to its mate to announce a tasty find. The ever-beckoning Kilimanjaro may greet you in the morning as you wake, its vast silhouette casting its sheer enormity over the breaking dawn horizon, the natural wild beauty of the bush spreading out all around you."

Bicycle safaris

Explore the plains and savannah surrounding Ol Donyo Lodge by mountain bike. Led by an experienced guide, your route will likely alternate between sandy tracks, gravel paths and tall, grassy trails, with itineraries planned according to each rider's ability. This active immersion in the landscape offers a unique perspective on Kenya's vast open spaces and provides a front-row seat to its wildlife.

4x4 safaris

Embark on a safari in one of our open-topped four-wheel-drive vehicles. Leaving twice a day–at sunrise and at the end of the day–and reserved for a limited number of participants, these vehicles have been specially adapted for viewing wildlife and make for a comfortable exploration of the landscape. Led by expert guides, these excursions can be shaped to suit your personal preferences. From the observation points located around the lodge, it's possible to get up close to many species of wild animals without ever leaving the property.

Meet Maasai communities

Ol Donyo Lodge offers several experiences in which you can interact with Maasai communities. Explore Kimana market, visit traditional villages, watch warrior dances at sunset, or meet with schoolchildren supported by the Great Plains Foundation. These activities offer a glimpse into local life and regional traditions, with a dynamic schedule that varies throughout the week.
