The Elbe Valley in Saxony

To the north-east of Dresden, the Elbe Valley is the birthplace of Saxony wine-making and European porcelain. The Elbe winds its way through an open landscape of valleys, fields, vineyards, towns and historic cities. As you stroll along, you will be transported to the middle-ages, the renaissance, the Baroque period and then back to the present. Our region is well worth the detour: cycle along the Elbe on well-maintained cycle paths, hop on a local train or board one of the many boats belonging to the biggest and oldest fleets of paddle boats in the world.

The Green Vault at Dresden Castle

Make sure that you find the time to take in the priceless treasures on display at Dresden Castle, which houses two must-see museums and an exceptional collection of silverware. Recently restored, the Historic Green Vault ("Historisches Grünes Gewölbe") holds treasures collected by Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony. With the New Green Vault ("Neues Grünes Gewölbe"), it represents one of the largest collections of art in Europe and is without contest, one of the most fascinating places to visit in Dresden.
