Casa Velha do Palheiro reinvents the essential Madeiran festival

On 29 August 2026, Casa Velha do Palheiro will host Arraial Gourmet, a gastronomic celebration bringing chefs, local producers and Madeiran traditions together in an exceptional outdoor setting.

Nestled within a lush estate, Arraial Gourmet offers a contemporary interpretation of the arraial, Madeira’s iconic festival. From 7pm, guests are invited to explore a series of cooking stations set among Casa Velha do Palheiro’s historic gardens, overlooking Funchal, hosted by talented chefs and artisans who will showcase the island’s flavors in original culinary creations.

This gastronomic experience unites a number of renowned figures from across the Portuguese and Madeiran culinary scene:

  • Gonçalo Bota – Oxalis restaurant
  • David Jesus – Seiva & Feitio restaurants
  • Filipe Janeiro –Gazebo restaurant
  • César Vieira – Audax restaurant
  • Júlio Pereira & Carlos Gonçalves – Grupo Kampo
  • Roberto Barros – Galáxia Skyfood, Savoy Palace hotel
  • Fabio Vieira – Adega do Pomar restaurant
  • Duarte Oliveira – Vista Balancal restaurant
  • Tony Fernandes – Pastry Chef and Founder of Uaucacau
  • Joana Gonçalves – Pastry Chef at Choux Pâtisserie

Each chef will present an exclusive creation inspired by traditional Madeiran produce and culture, highlighting local, seasonal ingredients. The event will feature some of the archipelago’s most emblematic producers and makers, including Aquanostra for its oysters, Queijaria da Avó for Azorean cheeses, Blandy’s Madeira wine, Reizinho agricole rum and Levada Brewery with Maison Pommery champagne.

True to the spirit of Casa Velha do Palheiro, Arraial Gourmet places sustainability at the heart of the event, promoting short supply chains, regional producers, seasonal ingredients and efforts to reduce food waste. Gastronomy, nature and heritage converge in an immersive, convivial atmosphere.
