Canyoning in the Purcaraccia

In the heart of the Bavella Massif mountain range, the Purcaraccia stream cascades down granite cliffs, creating a succession of turquoise pools, natural slides and waterfalls. Steeper than nearby canyons, this route features several rappel descents, including two drops of over 130 feet. A refreshingly active way of encountering the wild landscapes of the Alta Rocca as part of a guided excursion.

Hiking in the Alta Rocca

Known as the Terre des Seigneurs, or 'Land of Lords,' the Alta Rocca offers numerous hiking trails that wind through the region’s forests, granite ridges and high plateaus. At the foot of the Bavella Needles and Mount Incudine–which rises to an altitude of 7,000 feet–sections of the legendary GR20 route traverse landscapes that showcase the full diversity of Corsica’s terrain.

The Bavella Needles

At an altitude of 4,000 feet, the Bavella Pass looks out onto one of Corsica’s most spectacular landscapes. Jagged granite peaks, Laricio pine trees twisted by the wind and sheer rock faces form the iconic scenery of the Alta Rocca. The massif’s hiking trails–some of which intersect with the renowned GR20 route–offer numerous vantage points overlooking the famous Bavella Needles and their seven towers of Asinau.
