Bernard Magrez’s Grande Maison in Bordeaux - double winner at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2015
Less than a year after it opened in Bordeaux, the Grande Maison has been awarded for Bernard Magrez and Joël Robuchon’s daring and excellence. The duo have received two prestigious prizes: “European Winner in the Luxury Restaurant Hotel category” and “French Winner in the Luxury City Hotel category”.
The majestic Grande Maison, a 19th-century mansion, is located in the heart of the world’s wine capital. It is the result of two geniuses coming together: Bernard Magrez (owner of four Grands Crus Classés in Bordeaux) and Joël Robuchon. This stellar pairing has given rise to a trio of experiences based around gastronomy, wine and contemporary art. One of them excels in the careful mastery of flavours and the other shares his passion for wine (259 different bottles on the wine list) and contemporary art. The keys to their Grande Maison open up a unique world behind towering wrought-iron gates: a blend of styles featuring a delightful French garden dotted with contemporary creations, and Napoleon III-inspired rooms with walls decorated with silk taffeta by Pierre Frey and Moissonnier furniture. This sophistication and luxurious elegance carries through into the exquisite gastronomy created by the chef with the world’s most Michelin stars: Joël Robuchon reinterprets his classics, such as caviar jelly with cauliflower cream, tarte friande with truffles, confit of onions and rustic bacon, as well as his famous mashed potatoes.
A stay at the Grande Maison is a unique, emotive experience, in which innovation and creation remain rooted in tradition and Art with a capital “A” reaches new heights.
