This beautiful eighteenth century building, once owned by the Emperors of France, is surrounded by city walls and turrets from medieval times. Surrounded by nature in the exquisite setting of the Urdaibai estuary, it is within walking distance of the wonderful beaches of Laida and Laga, and just a few kilometres from iconic cities such as Bilbao and San Sebastian. The Castillo de Arteaga has 13 rooms, and each one is different. Guests can enjoy original interiors, with wood and stone panelling, and a varied menu based on fresh regional produce, with fish and meat taking centre stage.
The Castillo de Arteaga is committed to using its gift for making guests feel like VIPs for the wider good, offering its unique environment, free-of-charge, to support the work of children’s charity, the Pequeño Deseo Foundation. This national body works with children living with serious, long-term illness, encouraging them to dream about the things they might do if their wishes could come true.
While the wishes that emerge are as unique as the children themselves, the castillo is ideally placed to help grant the many that involve an adventure in a “real castle”. These can range from taking up residence as a princess, to having your own bedroom high up in the castle, or being served a fine afternoon tea in beautiful surroundings. The hotel’s owner is delighted to support the foundation’s “wonderful” work, something that translates into carefully crafted experiences for the children, designed to surprise, delight, and bring lasting benefit.
