Taylor’s is the most prestigious of the classic Port houses. It was founded over three hundred years ago in 1692 and has been a family company throughout its history. Taylor’s is best known for its legendary Vintage Ports, wines valued by collectors for their longevity and by connoisseurs for their elegance and restrained power. The company owns three of the finest vineyard estates in the Douro Valley, Quinta de Terra Feita, Quinta do Junco and, most famous of all, Quinta de Vargellas.
Quinta de Vargellas is recognized as one of the world’s greatest vineyard estates and its wines form the ‘backbone’ of the Taylor’s Vintage Port blend. This historic property also produces the elegant and scented Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Ports, made exclusively from the production of its own vineyards, as well as the very rare Vargellas Vinha Velha, a Vintage Port drawn in very small quantities from the oldest vines on the property.
Taylor’s also possesses the most extensive reserves of old cask-aged Port and is the leading producer of Aged Tawny Port, offering a full range of 10, 20, 30 and 40 Year Old Tawnies. It also offers a selection of exceptional Single Harvest (Colheita) Ports including some very rare limited editions from the 19th century.
For many Port lovers, Taylor’s is synonymous with Late Bottled Vintage, a style originally developed by the company. Although many other Port houses now offer an LBV, Taylor’s remains the benchmark in this successful category.
Although it has remained true to its heritage and traditions, Taylor’s has always been a pioneering company. It was the first to launch a dry white Port, Taylor’s Chip Dry, an elegant and stylish apéritif. It is a leader in wine making technology and remains at the forefront of viticultural research and the development of new techniques of vineyard landscaping and environmental sustainability. Above all, Taylor’s remains entirely dedicated to the production of premium Ports and makes no other products.
