High above the imperial spa town of Merano — where the sun’s rays stretch far and wide and the untamed romanticism of the majestic South Tyrolean mountains step into the spotlight — Castel Fragsburg has been sitting enthroned for nearly 400 years. Rooted in rock and soil, the 50,000 sq m of this former 17th-century hunting lodge nonetheless seem to float above the venerable treetops of Fragsburg’s rocky cliffs, as if trying to touch the castle above. It was the purchase of this 14th-century castle by the Ortner family that reunited these two buildings that originally belonged together. Today, the castle is used as an event space and can be visited by hotel guests.
Castel Fragsburg is nestled in an enchanted park. The heated pool, sun deck and whirlpool are surrounded by wisteria, roses, jasmine and hydrangeas. At the cliff’s edge, you will find the Fragsburg Sanctuarium, a treehouse for yoga and personalised treatments.
