Barolo, Barbaresco, Neive, Monforte d’Alba, La Morra, Grinzane Cavour and Serralunga d’Alba are just some of the hillside villages in the surrounding area. A day spent driving, motorbiking, cycling or horseback riding is a wonderful way of exploring the region. The villages may have their similarities, but each one is totally unique. You can still enjoy Piedmont as it was historically – its mix of history, industry, scenery and joie de vivre was the inspiration for Castello di Guarene.
The Alta Langa offers breathtaking views over the vines and hazel trees in the Barolo and Barbaresco area, which are unlike other better-known views. For example, Prunetto has a fabulous medieval castle in surroundings that really feel like you’ve traveled back in time to the 13th century. Nearby Mombarcaro offers one of the most unique views of Piedmont. In fact, on clear days, you can even make out the sea 50 km away.
Castello di Guarene – originally the dream abode of Lord of Guarene, Carlo Giacinto Roero – is an 18th-century home overlooking the Langhe vineyards, which feature on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The building's original works of art and period furniture have been preserved, presenting an exceptional baroque setting sure to delight all travelers. The expertly landscaped gardens are brimming with taxus hedges, hornbeams and other cypresses to give luscious natural surroundings perfect for long walks.
The Chinese halls are the jewel of this magnificent castle: despite their spectacular appearance, they are one of the best kept secrets of Castello di Guarene. They retain their original appearance entirely. For very special occasions, we offer a private dinner in this space: candlelight, flowers and a refined menu accompanied by great regional wines will make for an absolutely unique and unforgettable evening.
