Sheen Falls Lodge is a luxurious hotel set in a sizable estate, offering guests some 15 miles of outstanding private fishing on Ireland’s River Sheen.
Wild Atlantic salmon, found in the river, is thought to date back to the last ice age and is an icon among Ireland’s native species. Yet, the population decline of recent decades has resulted in numerous measures to protect the fish: all 148 Irish salmon rivers now have customized conservation limits. While the lodge offers serious fishing, it’s also serious about the conservation of salmon. The hotel has now assumed responsibility for ensuring compliance with angling regulations on the entire River Sheen. This means checking that those fishing the river have the relevant license—ensuring that conservation schemes remain properly funded—and verifying that endangered species are not being illegally fished. The lodge also undertakes the maintenance of river banks along the entire length of the Sheen, a measure vital to salmon conservation.
