Hotel and restaurant in the woods. Bedford Post, an authentic country inn just an hour from Manhattan, is the ideal setting for a tranquil getaway. Surrounded by pristine woodlands, this historic residence dating back to the 1780s now belongs to Richard Gere and his partner Russell Hernandez. A genuinely warm, hospitable atmosphere reigns in this temple to the pleasures of body and mind. The Bedford Post offers infinite ways to relax, including yoga courses, as well as more terrestrial delights in its two restaurants: Campagna, which serves flavorful Italian cuisine by Chef Michael White, and The Barn, which offers delicious brunches and breakfasts with homemade bread and cakes. ... Only five minutes from the Bedford Post, Caramoor is my number one recommendation for anyone visiting the property. This beautiful place has been devoted to music since 1928. Spending a few hours at Caramoor, built by Walter and Lucie Rosen, is a voyage through art history. The architecture provides a complete change of scenery, transporting you to Tuscany or Morocco. Make sure to walk through the Moroccan concert hall – a personal favorite. My family and I come here to enjoy live classical, baroque, jazz and tango. Each year, the amazing Caramoor International Music Festival attracts musicians from around the world.
The home of the ex-New York governor and Supreme Court Chief Justice. A major political figure in American politics during the second half of the 18th century, John Jay was a Founding Father of the United States. His family home, where he lived from 1801 to 1828, is open for visits and provides an in-depth look into early 19th century history and architecture. The site has been listed as a National Historic Landmark. Check their website ahead of time for special events taking place on-site.
This is the county’s largest park and everyone enjoys exploring the forests and meadows there. There are farms dating back more than two-centuries to discover and picnic areas dotted throughout that are great for an al fresco bite. We often come here on horseback and cross-country skiers can also enjoy the trail system maintained by the park during the winter. The rest of the year, this serene site attracts bird watchers and butterfly enthusiasts.

His sophisticated creations, like the glazed Muscovy duck with honey and lavender (a treat not to be missed!) emphasize purity, simplicity and seasonal ingredients. The tasting menu takes diners on a culinary journey that highlights the agricultural bounty of New York, together with the food traditions that have taken root there, all executed with a gracious sense of genuine hospitality. ...
