The hotel and restaurant La Torre del Visco is surrounded by its own certified organic farm of 220 acres with over 1.900 olive trees. Dating from Roman times, olive production is still the most important agricultural activity of this area and our own trees produce the oil we use in our restaurant throughout the year. The heart of our fruity and mellow signature oil comes from our Empeltre trees, the local Aragonese variety, whilst 400 Arbequina trees, a smaller more vigorous variety, help pollinate and add a wonderful extra depth of flavour to the final oil. We also prepare some of harvest for table olives.
With a map to show you how to get to the best, secret picnic spots, a blanket and picnic hamper filled with delicious goodies, set off from the hotel on foot or in the car and enjoy the whole day out in the fresh air. Enjoy your “al fresco” light lunch amongst the olive groves on our organic farm, or down by the river amongst the extraordinary rock formations carved by the water over the centuries, some other lovely spot along your hike or excursion.
La Torre del Visco is very proud to have been granted the status of a Starlight Foundation establishment. The remote location of the hotel overlooking a spectacular river valley with no other buildings nor roads in sight and no light pollution to detract from the brilliantly clear night skies, guarantee optimum conditions for astronomy throughout the year. Accompanied by an expert guide and with the assistance of our powerful telescope, guests will locate and observe the moon, planets, North star, milky way, and other clusters of stars and constellations. Incredible images can be captured by connecting a mobile phone to the telescope. An unforgettable experience for everyone.
Join us for an expert, hands-on journey through some of the region’s most exciting wine producing bodegas. We offer a unique insight into the most outstanding family-owned wineries of La Terra Alta and the Matarranya. The unique soil, climate and altitude of each of the four vineyards on our itinerary combine with local varieties of estate-grown grapes – principally garnacha, garnacha peluda, morenillo and samsó – to produce wines of distinctive character and fine quality. And with our established connections to each bodega, we can bring you into the heart of this creative process – with plenty of time to sample a wide variety of wines.
