“A discrete hideaway in the heart of predator country!”
Maître de Maison - Dereck Joubert
On the northern border of the Maasai Mara, you’ll find Mara Plains canvas tents are tucked away amongst the lush vegetation on the banks of the Ntiakitiak River river. This camp is one of the smallest in the region and offers the opportunity to get really close to nature and the local wildlife in the heart of a private conservancy with a very low density in vehicles and with abundant big cats. The programme is customised and very flexible – it is organised on a daily basis so that you can make the most of the unique experiences that nature constantly offers. The traditional safari-style tents, which are raised on decks and have a marquis ceiling, blend into the beautiful countryside and offer sweeping views of the savannah.

Discover the hotel

If a camp’s success lies in its details, then Mara Plains Camp is truly blessed, located on a bend of the Ntiakitiak River in the 35,000-acre private Olare Motorogi Conservancy bordering Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve the south. The camp is a marvelous combination of romance, adventure, discovery and exploration. The decor pays homage to the essence of East Africa and its chief influences – Ancient Swahili heritage reflected in large wooden doors. Accents of deep red and purple honour great Maasai warriors.

Our commitments

In the morning, the Savannah rustles to the growls of big cats and in the distance, a herd of zebras approach a waterhole. For the Mara Plains Camp this region, beating to Nature’s drum, is a world treasure to be preserved at all costs.

As a member of the Great Plain Conservation association, the Mara Plains Camp has certain responsibilities: preserving one of the last pockets of wilderness in Africa, protecting big cats and other animals from the Savannah and supporting local communities. At Mara Plains Camp guests are accommodated with this in mind: the tents blend into the natural environment without disturbing its beauty and the simple food is prepared using local products. Here, plant and animal life reign supreme and protecting endangered species is a priority. A fine approach to responsible tourism, in partnership with the neighbouring Maasai families.
