The quintessentially-French Château de la Treyne stands spectacularly on limestone cliffs above the River Dorgogne. The current owners, Philippe and Stephanie Gombert, took over the château more than thirty years ago, preserving its heritage and transforming it into the luxury hotel it is today.
The château’s exceptional park is home to a wide range of mature trees—now all more than a century old. In addition to mature oaks, chestnuts, and red beeches, there are numerous exotics—such as Lebanese Cedars and Mexican Honey-Locust Trees. While details of the park have long been available, the mix of a global clientele and international trees has led to a strong appetite for more. As a result, the owners are employing an expert to help them expand the range of information available. The hotel also partners with a local social enterprise whose special-needs workers now play a central role in preserving the château’s natural heritage.
