The Caper: leaves, fruit and flower
For those passionate about Mediterranean cuisine, the scent of Sicily and its history; and for those in love with the sea surrounding the Aeolian islands, ‘The caper: leaves, fruit and flowers’ is an experience that will delight as it draws together tradition and innovation, taste and scent. Naturally all brought together with a celebration of Malvasia delle Lipari, the treasured cultivation in these UNESCO protected islands. The caper is an integral part to the landscape and economy of Salina. This little perennial shrub probably originated in a tropical climate, but has always been present in the Mediterranean. The Caper has also been cited for its medicinal use in the Bible and in the writings of Aristotle and Pliny the Elder. The event will include a discussion with with a local anthropological guide, who will explain the importance of capers on the island of Salina, cultivation and conservation methods. Head chef Ludovico de Vivo will create a menu using all parts of the plant.
