"I have spent my life on sailing boats - or just next to them. I have been tacking the length of New England since I was four years old. This is more than just a passion, it's an entire lifetime dedicated to regattas. In May 2015, as the Executive Director of Sail Newport Inc., I was fortunate enough to host the prestigious Ocean Race in Newport. This was recognition for a harbour that is entirely focused on the world of sailing - Newport has long arranged the regattas for the America's Cup. I am also inviting you, through this Route du Bonheur, to discover an exceptional coastline with me, between Greenwich and Nantucket Island going through the Fishers Islands, one of the best kept secrets in the United States…"

Born in the Black Forest, this devotee of French gastronomy learned his trade in Alsace before moving his pots and pans to this beautiful 18th century Italianate manor house near the Connecticut coast. Inspired by his travels, Chef Henkelmann likes to break down boundaries and create surprising combinations, like his champagne sauerkraut accompanied by a seafood mousseline. Each of his recipes makes a subtle reference to his origins. Thomas’s partner Theresa, an interior designer, has created a décor worthy of his cooking, ensuring the hotel’s recognition as one of Greenwich’s most tasteful addresses.
