Hotel and restaurant in a village. Krone Regensberg is an impressive house, rich in history yet perfectly contemporary. In the village of Regensberg, it stands like a natural fortress perched on the sloping vineyards of the Jura Mountains. Solid wood floors and dry stone walls structure the spaces. In the nine suites, handcrafted materials, along with the pieces from the furniture collection, produce a comfortable and modern decor. The attention given by Marion Ernst, the Maître de Maison, adds to Krone’s charm and intimacy. At the restaurant, the sophisticated menu is nourished by influences from around the world and made all the more delicious by the stunning views over the Swiss Alps. ... Learn moreless
Relatively unknown, Regensberg is one of the best preserved medieval villages in Switzerland. Clinging to the eastern slopes of the Jura mountain range, it is dominated by an astonishing 13th century circular donjon. From there, the view over the surrounding hills takes in a vast landscape of vines. It was, incidentally, the wine reserves which saved the village from a terrible fire in 1540. So, we can still walk under the beautiful half-timbered houses…
Opened in 1910, considered as one of the most prestigious museums in Switzerland, the Museum for Modern Art in Zürich houses rare works by Chagall and Rodin but also Monet, Cézanne and Van Gogh. Its Giacometti and Munch collections are amongst the most important in the world. The museum allows you to immerse yourself in Swiss painting with the paintings of Hodler and Vallotton.

This is a display for young and old. Eagles, falcons and owls fly and land in a second just inches from your shoulder, which is wonderful and frightening all at once. The falconer's commentary aids better understanding of the world, beauty and sharpness of birds of prey.
Around Malans, a small village in Grisons, is the refuge of Martin Donatsch, two-time world champion producer of pinot noir. Following in the footsteps of his father Thomas - who was a pioneer of wine-growing in Switzerland - Martin frees himself from the trends in order to follow his inspiration and his own path. Feel free to take the cellar tour followed by a wine-tasting. Heidi - Martin's mum - owns a small tavern (Ochsen) on the property where she serves really simple roasting sausages and Bünderfleisch along with a glass of wine. Sheer delight.

Practicing winter sports or alpine hiking, our guests settle into their habits. Hotel and restaurant in the mountains. In Switzerland there is a very special canton - one where Romansh, Italian and German are spoken and which served as backdrop for the novel Heidi: We are in Graubünden. In the heart of the Alps and more than 700 lakes, this is the idyllic setting for Hotel Walther. Our guests can enjoy elegance and comfort born of a hotel tradition dating back over a century. The water in the spa Aqua Viva flows from a mountain stream, and the Cristallino grotto, hewn out of Andeer green granite, is unique in Europe. At the ‘La Trattoria’ restaurant, the dining room walls are panelled in elegant 200-year-old spruce, and a cuisine with seasonal products is served. ... Learn moreless
Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899) who died in his log cabin on Schafberg, just above Pontresina, is still one of my favourite painters. Before he turned to Symbolism, Segantini depicted the Alps like few artists before him. His famous Triptych of the Alps, Harmony of Life - Nature - Harmony of Death, is strikingly shown off under the museum's dome and is alone enough to justify a visit.
Savognin is a small village located at an altitude of 1 200m and in particular has an amazing butcher's shop. People come from far and wide to try the typical Swiss cooked meats by Piero Peduzzi. The artisan butcher is the owner of a small abattoir. You'll feel like you have been transported to the old Les Halles market in Paris. His roasting veal sausage will send your taste buds to heaven... Veia Stradung, 7460 Savognin
Whether in summer or winter, this train provides an unforgettable journey between Zermatt and St Moritz. The seven-hour trip is a succession of mountain landscapes, spectacular valleys and breathtakingly deep gorges. A rail cruise through 91 tunnels and over 291 bridges. I only caught this train once, in the height of the summer. The sky was cloudless and I felt as if I was in a movie. Another option is the Bernina Express that crosses a part of the Alps from Pontresina to Tirano. The return journey is made in one day...
Restaurant and hotel in the mountains. A wonderful mountain landscape provides the backdrop to this beautiful inn, which has retained the typical style of the Engadine over its 450 years. The new buildings blend in harmoniously, with their modern lines clad in natural wood inspired by the surrounding pine and larch forests. The spring-water organic pool is located on a small plateau directly in front of the hotel. This peaceful, silent and hospitable spot is the work of a family, the Cadonau, whose members have, for several generations, coupled their complementary talents perfectly to each other. Whether hotelier, cook, or carpenter, what is most important to them is to focus all their efforts on the guests to offer elegant comfort, a warm welcome and fine cuisine based on fresh seasonal ingredients. The result constitutes a graceful, well balanced framework and thus creates a wonderful harmony. Chef Dario Cadonau learnt his craft in some of the most prestigious restaurants in Switzerland and Germany. He is able to propose 3 culinary moods, from hearty mountain specialties to gourmet restaurant classics with a different surprise menu every night . ... Learn moreless
This is a fortified sentinel set on a hilltop. The castle stands over the houses in the village of Tarasp like a mother broods over her children. Built in the 11th century in the Austrian style, it was fully restored in the early 20th century. Besieged many times down through the centuries, it was never taken. These days you can visit the knights’ halls and staterooms, chapel and the wonderful 2 500 pipe organ. Matinée concerts are sometimes organised.
