Established in France more than 50 years ago, Relais & Châteaux has become a renowned reference of excellence in the hotel and restaurant world. The Association's mission is to spread its unique art de vivre across the globe by selecting outstanding properties with a truly unique character.
It has been over one hundred years since the first hot springs hotel opened in Taiwan, and it became a destination thanks to the healing properties of the water. Villa 32 builds on this tradition of well-being and enhances it further by drawing on the delights of nature that surround it. Located in Beitou, tucked away between impressive mountains in a geothermal valley, this spacious villa has only five guest rooms – each with its own natural hot springs tub. Guests are welcomed into a private atmosphere in the midst of lush vegetation covered in mist from the hot springs. The late owner Ming-Hong Chiu has succeeded in crafting a delicate and relaxing atmosphere by artfully combining the surrounding natural elements of water, wood, trees and stone into the décor.

Le Moût, creation of Grand Chef Lanshu Chen, is a highlight of Taiwan’s gastronomic scene. Situated in the heart of bustling Taichung, the restaurant has garnered international critical praise since launching two years ago. The name Le Moût derives from the French word for the process of fermenting grape juice, a simple substance, into a fine and complex wine. Similarly, Chen takes simple ingredients and transforms them into sophisticated, unexpected dishes. Her philosophy is to combine a traditional French foundation with Asian flavours, expertly weaving between the two cultures. The interiors, meanwhile, echo the approach of its chef, pairing antique chandeliers, sleek modern mirrors and rich velvet upholstered dining seats.
Blend into the surroundings, listen to the sounds of water, let oneself be carried away by the life-enhancing waters of the hot springs: at one hour from Taipei, right in the heart of the mountains, this dream becomes a reality. Enjoy the views from the hotel of forests and the crystalline river waters. The building is as one with the mountain, letting nature fully express her beauty; inside, a blend of Taiwan aboriginal life style and autochthonous inspiration lend charm to the interior décor. The private bathhouses allow guests to enjoy the spa waters in total peace and quiet while gazing out over the lake, and the aromatherapy treatments provide just what it takes to induce perfect relaxation. The cuisine served in the two restaurants is certainly up to the standards of any discerning gourmet.
