In northern Germany, the Island of Sylt rises up out of the North Sea. The largest of the Frisian Islands is connected to the mainland by the Hindenburgdamm Causeway. The Baroque-style former Palais Pannwitz, built in a residential district of Berlin at the beginning of the 20th century by Kaiser Wilhelm’s right-hand man, is now home to a splendid hotel.
