Relais & Châteaux welcomes 9 new members in Asia and Latin America
As part of its international development strategy, Relais & strengthens its network with the arrival on 1 January 2007 of 9 new upscale addresses.
For the first time, the Association has members in Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia. Thanks to the arrival of new members in Brazil, Argentina and Indonesia, Relais & Châteaux extends its global network to 54 countries.
Jaume Tàpies, President of Relais & Châteaux, explains that the Board of Directors had designated South-East Asia, China, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia as priority destinations for the Association’s international development. It has set itself the target of finding 10 properties which meet the Relais & Châteaux criteria in each of these regions in order to create solid delegations.
Three new destinations in Asia and the development of the international network
Asia
Malaysia joins Relais & Châteaux with a hotel on Tioman Island, the “Japalama Resort” and a Relais Gourmand “Tamarind Springs” in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Thailand also puts in an appearance with 3 new addresses “The Eugenia” in Bangkok, “The Rachamankha” in Chiang Mai and “Phuket Pavilions” on Phuket island.
Cambodia joins the Association with the “Heritage Suites Hotel” in Siem Reap, near Angkor.
In Indonesia Relais & Châteaux, already represented in Bali, moves into the capital of the island, Denpasar, with “Bali Pavilions”.
South America
In Brazil, the Association swells its ranks with the arrival of a third property “La Pousada Estrela d’Agua” in Porto Seguro,
In Argentina, “El Colibri” in Santa Catalina joins the Association.
These new Asian members go hand in hand with the creation of new coordination and promotion offices. One office in Bangkok is set to open on 1 February and general sales agents will be responsible for the Association’s commercial development in the main countries in this region.
Jacques-Olivier Chauvin, Director General, adds that “these markets are interesting for two reasons: they offer major growth potential both as destination markets for international guests and as source markets of guests for the rest of the Association.”
