Unique in the world: The Domaine d’Auriac is built on the ancient Carsac oppidum, where the story of Carcassonne, a Unesco World Heritage site, begins.

The Domaine d’Auriac, at the foot of the city of Carcassonne, which is listed as a Unesco world Heritage site, is built on the ancient Carsac oppidum, where the story of Carcassonne first begins. For three generations, the Rigaudis Family have been ceaselessly reinventing this 19th-century townhouse, built over the cellars of a Carolingian Abbey – it is a place ruled over by calm, comfort and fine dining in the luxuriant shade of the 300-year-old trees in the surrounding park. The restaurant at the Domaine showcases dishes from the Languedoc and serves the original recipe for the typical local ‘Dieu le Fils’ cassoulet. Nearby is the fascinating mediaeval town of Carcassonne in a country with Cathare abbeys and castles whose ruins rise from clifftops and rocky promontories, enticing visitors to explore a region where history, mysteries and legends, such as the story of Abbot Saunière’s treasure in Rennes-le-Château, abound.
