Hotel and restaurant in the country (Funchal) On the volcanic soil of Madeira, “the pearl of the Atlantic”, this former hunting lodge is a perfect example of the local tradition of quintas, lordly manor houses converted into charming hotels. Casa Velha do Palheiro was built in 1804 and its three buildings are havens of calm nestling in the celebrated Palheiro gardens, created two hundred years ago, alongside the renowned championship Palheiro golf course. It’s the ideal place to explore nature along the “levadas”, or mini canals, and the stunning botanical gardens.
