Niagara Falls
Formed 12,000 years ago, when melting glaciers created the massive Great Lakes, the Falls at Niagara straddle the Canadian-U.S. International Border in the Province of Ontario and the state of New York. More than 12 million visitors each year are overawed at the sight of one of the world’s great natural wonders: three rapids - Rainbow and Bridal Veil Falls on the American side and the mesmerizing Horseshoe Falls in Canada - that together form Niagara Falls. A place suited for lovers, it is often called “honeymoon capital of the world.”
The climate is ideal for grape growing and the region is home to more than 50 wineries, including those that make ice wine, a golden dessert elixir fit for the gods. Golfing, biking and nature hiking appeals to the outdoor recreationalist. Less than 20 miles to the north is the historic hamlet of Niagara-on-the-Lake, home of the George Bernard Shaw Festival and plenty of boutique shopping.
