Bodrum
Bodrum was founded in the first millennium before Christ by the Dorians under the name of Halikarnassus. It was a rich city, the capital of the Carians and it witnessed the construction of one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Mausoleum of Halikarnassus. This was destroyed by an earthquake in the fourteenth century and its stones were used by the Knights of Malta to build an imposing fortress which can still be admired today. Bodrum has gone through many changes to become, today, one of the most popular seaside resorts in Turkey.
