Matahari Beach Resort & Spa receives the "Green Hotel Standard"

Owned by husband and wife team Magnus & Parwathi Bauch from Munich, the Relais & Chateaux affiliated luxury resort in Pemuteran on Bali is one of ten hotels in Indonesia that can now boast this prestigious award.

The certification scheme adopted by the ASEAN Tourism Ministers rewards consistent achievement in ecological aspects of hotel management and sets high standards for the future.

For owner Magnus Bauch, who was in Bangkok to receive the award in person, the coveted "Green Hotel Standard" is also recognition of his commitment to the environment and conservation of natural resources.

The only 5-star resort in the north of Bali, a region still scarcely touched by tourism, has its own closed water cycle - from water extraction to recycling. Solar energy is used to provide hot water, and waste water is purified in a biological water treatment plant and then used for watering the resort’s tropical park. Even the detergent in the hotel’s laundry is automatically dosed and consumption is very low - also thanks to the resort’s water softening treatment.
