Kahurangi National Park


To the southwest of the South Island of New Zealand, Kahurangi National Park extends over 450,000 hectares of wild land. It is an immense natural reserve, with outstanding biodiversity, only a few miles from Nelson, one of the most dynamic cities in the country. Its varied scenery is truly breathtaking, with lakes, rivers, mountains, forest, underground caves, not to mention hundreds of species of exotic plants and animals which are on the verge of extinction. The park is also of considerable historical interest as it contains some rare vestiges of Maori culture dating back to the fourteenth century, as well as some prehistoric fossils of note.
